BIOGRAPHY

Jai Cochran (pronounced jay) is a painter, photographer and writer living in Fort Collins, Colorado. He has been a landscape architect and small town newspaper publisher, and lived in Georgia, Texas and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

As a landscape architect in San Antonio, Texas he designed the grounds of the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. While living in Mexico he photographed and produced the travelogue "A Video Postcard from San Miguel de Allende," as well as giving public photography lectures. Jai's novel Speak the Truth and Fear No Man is available on Amazon's Kindle.

A sometime painter, in 2001 he discovered the advantages of painting from his own digital photographs and took up painting in oils full time. He has since expanded to watercolor, acrylics and woodcuts.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint landscapes that are beautiful and mysterious –– places where natural forces have uniquely converged.

I use color to express the personality of each place, because color, like music, is vibration –– it is the melody that floats above the rhythm of the forms.

The beauty I strive for I do not care to flatten or abstract. Rather, I create compositions that drop back and draw the viewer in. Expressive three-dimensional detail is the hallmark of my art.
